What makes this Pub/Inn special/unique?
Ale has been served for over 900 years at the Royal Standard of England. From the moment you walk into this beautiful country pub with its misshapen floors and timbered ceiling, you’ll feel transported back in time. The early Saxons settlers brewed ale here and the Saxon alewife, (the brewer was nearly always a woman) would put a green bush up on a pole to let the locals know the ale was ready. The alehouse was used as the meeting house for the cottagers in the hamlet. Here they could resolve any disputes, barter and have a drink to the goddess of barley.
